Analytical Chemist
-
Jan 2018 - Dec 2018
Analytical laboratory sample preparation and testing to determine agricultural sample properties in high paced 24 hour turnover environment. Worked very closely with several machines: ammonia and nitrate concentrations on FIA, feed values on NIR (similar to FTIR), multi-element concentration analysis on ICP-OES, and total C, S, N content via LECO CID (combustion infrared detection). As well as additional wet chemistry and extractions. Prepared machine reagents, and extraction reagents. Daily data corrections to account testing condition such as temperature. They run a super efficient lab. I really wanted to contribute to the process, but it was already super streamlined. I did take some initiative in my space time to engage in designing better fitting test tube rack in an opensource AutoCAD program. After some trial & error and feedback from a local community college, I was able to 3d print the test tube rack. I enjoyed taking the initiative on this project. Show less

Service Activity Publicity Director
-
Mar 2013 - Jul 2013
Under the direction of Tate Saurey, the Area Director of Service Activities for Spring 2013, I coordinate the Publications and Social Media: online, or physically distributed for the thirty programs in our division of Activities. I personally designed logos for each of the programs and began efforts to build logo recognition for each of the 32 programs. I oversaw Service Week, including the Service Fair. While I was not personally in charge of the Sharepoint site, I took the initiative and literally built each page from the ground up, within a week the entire program considered me the SharePoint expert. To extend our Facebook presence I personally attended an average of 15 hours of program events each week taking pictures of the participants, having them like our page, and then tagging them on our page for all their friends to see. In 2 weeks I doubled the "Likes" on our page. And I expanded the page to include a new program called ShortStack which allows for truly innovative event updates and advertising. I used ShortStack to create an extension page with an iPad like interface to show people what our programs were about.I developed a semester plan for Printed Materials which included cutting the budget for fliers to expand our poster budget and in doing so, maximized our visibility and cut our waste simultaneously. Also, I kept the school website up todate, and expanded it two-fold.I undertook the responsibility of recruitment of new leaders via the Knocking Initiative. In which, I recruited all the leaders to donate their time going door to door in the student housing to personally invite others to join our cause. Show less

As a sales rep I sold 6-8 thousand dollar contracts for alarm system monitoring. Cold calls door to door in residential areas and with local businesses. In this professional environment you learn to resolve concerns and close sales. As a technician I installed the systems. Installing the devices, running the electrical portion, and programming the alarm. In this position I learned to work under time constraints, communicate with clients, and put in practice critical thinking & problem solving. Show less

Night Office Janitor
-
Apr 2011 - Apr 2012
I worked in Idaho Falls and Rexburg, under Jared Young, the owner, and heart of the company, which he runs out of Boise. Working at such a distance from any form of management required responsibility on my part and efficiency on his. Jared was one of the best employers I've ever had. I cleaned offices at night. I also washed windows and power-washed sidewalks at various locations which included all the Walgreen's within 40 miles, and several hours of driving. Working all night on top of everything tested my resolve (while attending college full-time studying for a degree in chemistry, and a minor in pre-medical biology with all the attached advanced calculus & physics, plus the extra curricular activities that today's Medical Schools expect). Despite the challenge working nights presented, it was one of my favorite jobs because it provided time for reflection and goal setting. Unfortunately, after a year and a lot of thought, I left the job to focus more on school. Show less

Rock Steady Inc.
-
Nov 2010 - Apr 2011
Rock Stead is run by Robert Booth, an outstanding example of leadership and dedication. He shows this not only in his profession but in his family. On Robert's Linkedin profile summary it says, "Work hard, do a good job, enjoy what you do. It's what I'm here for" and that succinct statement also describes the work that Rock Steady Inc. turns out. One thing that sets Rock Steady Inc. apart from other companies is that there is no short explanation for what they do--because they do whatever you need them to do. An amazing family owned company which will hang drapes, build an embossed detailed shelving unit, decorate your house for an upcoming event or build an entire showcase for disneyland (you may have seen their tron show case in California Adventure.) To get an better idea just gazing through their website (attached) is like a scene from Alice and Wonderland. The best I can do to sum it up is that Rock Steady provides the manpower and experience to make creativity into reality. I learned important production crew savy skills and how to set up and break down production equipment. But mostly I learned from the character of the amazing people I worked with. Show less

This was a great place to work. My manager George, is one of the most outgoing people I've ever met. He is completely professional but engaging, happy and enthusiastic. I remember one day when a new metallurgy properties scanner came in, he made it feel like Christmas! Showing me all the different settings and scanning every different chemical the world could offer. George considers everyone his friend. I even had the honor of attending his wedding, and meeting his amazing spouse. I have the utmost respect for him and his family. It doesn't matter where you are or what you do, it's the people you associate with that make or break a workplace. And while George was a great supervisor I was also helped and encouraged by a couple others: Carter taught me to weld in shop one, and Mark, (who drives Diversified's goose-neck hitch flatbed to deliver the products) certified me on the massive hydraulic forklift. And it didn't hurt that Diversified builds some of the most intriguing fabrication products in the country; in the short time I worked there, I saw face of a 30 foot electric train erected from the ground up and shipped off, I helped program the sheet metal laser to cut logos and specialty parts, I believe I broke an empty Vodka bottle while helping fit the track of a conveyor belt onto a complicated custom built Vodka capping machine with two other workers, and helped in preliminary inspection of government radioactive shield cases--though I wish I'd had someone take a picture with my arms in the sleeves! And my favorite part was securing the roofing--while working cupped in the small palm of the Genie Boom lift's long arch, just my work, my drill and no distractions. Show less

Couried legal documents to the courthouse and the local law firms. This job required explicit time management, punctually, and professionalism.
