The role involves speaking to victims of domestic abuse and professionals seeking advice and support within North Kent, Medway, Maidstone and Thanet, however we receive calls from all over Kent. The role involves being empathetic, able to work well under pressure, and knowledgeable in the various issues involved in domestic abuse. As part of my role, I process referrals from individuals and professionals such as MARAC's from Police, concerns from local social services, mental health teams, health professionals and other charities. I triage referrals to make sure they receive the correct support and are allocated to the correct programme and IDVA.I also have experience and training recognising safeguarding issues and how to process any concerns. An important part of the job is to be knowledgeable of local support agencies, law and orders, housing, child support issues, mental health, high risk intervention, safety planning, immigration and stay on top of any changes. A lot of my role also involves advocating for victims and making sure their safety is a priority

I am very proud to have been a part of YouCan from the beginning.YouCan is a project set up by the Childrens' Development Trust (Reg charity no: 1125389) to support young people whose lives have been impacted by cancer.www.you-can.org.ukYouCan – Youth Cancer Support has been set up to support young people throughout the South East and London whose lives have been impacted by cancer. We provide support through counselling, complementary therapies, nutrition workshops, exercise workshops, wellbeing weekends and funded short breaks by the sea. Our aim is to build self-esteem, encourage peer support and friendship and help young people face the future with increased confidence. We have just purchased a property by the Kent Coast for young people to take a break with family and friends away from the stresses of cancer. There can often be a heavy financial impact on families, where parents may have to stop work to care for their son/daughter and a break away, that would be so beneficial, is simply not possible. Rest, memories and a seaside environment can be of enormous benefit, and is particularly poignant when a family is facing an end of life situation. We offer a range of services that are tailored and specific to the needs of individuals depending on where they are with their treatment (curative or palliative) or recovery. These include Counselling (one-to-one or group), Wellbeing Workshops and Weekends; Complementary Therapies; Sports Courses; Nutrition Workshops; Short breaks at the YouCan House.
