Bio
Gopal Harikumar
I worked with Sunny at VMware for nearly 3 years. It was an absolute pleasure and privilege. Sunny is that rare breed of Product Manager who can understand not just business imperatives and market positioning, but also engineering perspectives. He is quick to see the business and revenue potential in technical proposals such as architectural enhancements or developing broad capabilities and actively partners with engineering to sell such ideas within the larger organization. At the same time, he holds a firm line on potentially unprofitable excursions. One aspect of Sunny that I will miss is his ever-present ebullience and cheer. I always walk away from any 1-1 with him with optimism and a smile because his relentless focus on the positive aspects of any situation. He is also comfortable in his own skin in any company... whether it be facing the GM of the business or a hardcore engineer, can understand both points of view and most importantly find a way to connect these points of view while offending neither. As Kipling says he can talk with crowds and walk with kings. He is one person that I would 100% trust to represent my team/product anywhere, as he is completely focused on doing the right thing.

I had the pleasure of working for Sunny during the start of my tenure at VMware, and needless to say, I wish I had more time with him. Sunny has the perfect balance of product management, technical, and interpersonal skillset, and it showed not only as a Product leader, but as a Manager as well. In our time together, I learned a fair amount just shadowing him and I know that many others like myself have and will continue to benefit from his experience and willingness to share them with everyone. Managers like Sunny don't come by often, and am truly envious of others that will have the opportunity to work with him in the future. It goes without saying that I surely hope our paths cross professionally - I wouldn't think twice about working with Sunny again.
