Formerly known as the "Jefferson Awards Foundation"In 1972, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, U.S. Senator Robert Taft, Jr. and Sam Beard founded the Jefferson Awards for Public Service to establish a “Nobel Prize” for public and community service.I run all aspects of Jefferson Awards programming in the state of Minnesota. This includes:- Working with businesses to grow and strengthen employee volunteer programs and recognition.- Training and supporting youth in leadership development.- Connecting businesses who prioritize youth leadership development with students as sponsors and mentors.- Fundraising for the operation and growth of our youth development and training programs.- Spotlighting stories of youth who are making their communities better places, through partnerships with various community organizations.- Partnering with media outlets to recognize stories of outstanding service to the community.- Organizing Youth Leadership Conferences 3 times per year.I spend time working with student leaders to implement the Students In Action program, which teaches leadership skills through service projects, volunteerism, and building a culture of service in their school.Assist students in their efforts to:- Develop a nomination and selection process to recognize fellow students for outstanding community service.- Connect with local media outlets to improve awareness of the work being done by students in the community.- Create fundraisers and donation drives to provide resources for expanding volunteerism at their school.- Develop a process for bringing together and organizing all the various service groups and projects happening within their school.
