Specifically, Hitch Health addresses the non- emergency medical transportation (NEMT) challenges faced by patients, clinical practices, health systems and health plans. Hitch Health focuses primarily on Medicaid and Medicaid expansion patients, 25% of whom will miss health care appointments because of transportation. Hitch Health is a proprietary software solution that links transportation ride share services such as Lyft and Uber with electronic health record (EHR) appointment data from hospitals and clinics. Hitch Health offers the first NEMT solution to interface directly and seamlessly with EHRs and ride share services. Hitch Health automatically offers rides to eligible patients through SMS texting. Hitch Health validates the model that seeing patients in the ambulatory setting improves and maintains health. To accomplish this, Hitch Health targets clinics that experience high no- show rates. Ambulatory visits are inexpensive investments in health; emergency room visits and hospital admissions incur extraordinary expense for treatment of disease. By moving care Upstream, Hitch Health not only helps patients, it also improves provider productivity and health system finances. Show less

Pryor, MD, MBA, CEO I’m pleased to share an update on our Center for Healthcare Innovation and introduce the new leadership team. The Center for Healthcare Innovation was created to help us achieve our organizational strategic aims by working with internal and external partners to understand the needs of our patients and develop innovative and transformative approaches to deliver better care for individuals, better health for populations, and lower costs for consumers and communities. This strategic initiative was endorsed by the Hennepin Healthcare System board. Today I’m pleased to report that we have an outstanding new leadership team in place. Susan Jepson started this week as the new vice president and director of the Center for Healthcare Innovation. Her physician partner is Dr. Chip Truwit, Chief of Radiology, who is the new Chief Innovation Officer. Dr. William Walsh will serve as Deputy Chief Innovation Officer. The director role is a full time position, the MD leadership roles are 0.3 positions. Dr. Truwit will continue as Chief of Radiology and Dr. Walsh will continue his facial plastic and reconstructive surgery practice. Dr. Truwit has been an innovative leader and role model as Chief of Radiology at HCMC and throughout his career. He was the first Radiologist to switch to digital desktop publishing and self-published the first desktop-published textbooks in Radiology. He created the University’s Center for MR-guided Therapy, among the first such centers in the world to undertake neurosurgery inside an MRI scanner. That work led to over 20 patents and the creation of a medical start-up that eventually exited to Medtronic. From patient experience and engagement, to use of technology and service improvement, Dr. Truwit has set high standards for his department and he will bring that same leadership and creative energy to his new role.
