As the Principal of East Valley High School, I have worked with Tim Ervin for many years. He serves as a non-commissioned security officer at East Valley High School. I was fortunate to hire Tim, participate in his trainings and observe his work during the time he has been at East Valley High School. Tim is a very dedicated employee with a passion for education that reaches beyond his prescribed duties as a security officer. He has a professional yet friendly demeanor that allows him to work effectively with students, parents, fellow staff members and law enforcement officials. Tim takes his responsibilities very seriously and continues to seek ways to improve security for our high school. In crisis situations, Tim keeps a cool head and is able to think on his feet and make responsible decisions to adequately deal with emotional and dangerous situations. Tim participates in trainings and continuing education opportunities whenever possible. Through his experience in security in the Spokane School District, he brings a wealth of knowledge to his position in our District. Besides his professional expertise, Tim’s best characteristic is found in the way he connects with kids, builds their trust, yet remains professionally removed enough to be successful in his dealings with all kinds of students. As I mentioned earlier, Tim has a genuine passion for the broader scope of what we do in schools. He demonstrates this passion through the many hours of volunteer service he has provided as a volunteer coach in our athletic programs. Even when he is not on duty, he will often appear at school events to support the kids participating in these events. JSM:cs Jeffrey S. Miller, Principal
