Summer Research Intern
-
May 2016 - Aug 2016
I worked as a summer research intern for Dr. Travis Jerde in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the IU School of Medicine in downtown Indianapolis. I focus on research dealing with prostate cancer and chemotherapeutic resistance in prostate cancer cells. I assisted a post-doctorate student with his thesis research dealing with inflammation and cell survival signaling, as well as drug resistance and desensitization, in prostate cancer cells, which was recently published in Oncotarget (citation below). Mcilwain, D. W., Fishel, M. L., Boos, A., Kelley, M. R., & Jerde, T. J. (2017). APE1/Ref-1 redox-specific inhibition decreases survivin protein levels and induces cell cycle arrest in prostate cancer cells. Oncotarget. doi:10.18632/oncotarget.23493

Camp Counselor
-
Jun 2015 - Jun 2016
I was a counselor for Hephzibah's "sibling camp" for two years. At sibling camp, siblings from the foster system (both biological and not) are reunited for a week-long, overnight camp, so that the children were able to spend time with their siblings they had been separated from.
