Worked within a team of three to develop a discrete event simulation (DES) model for Amman's newly launched Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. Responsibilities: - Defined project deliverables and established a timeline for completion. - Collected and analyzed data on the current BRT system, including daily passenger numbers, bus fleet size, headway times, and more. - Conducted on-site surveys and closely observed the existing BRT processes. - Facilitated weekly team meetings to discuss project progress and coordinate efforts. - Utilized Arena Rockwell Simulation software to build a comprehensive DES model representing Amman's BRT system. - Analyzed the simulation findings and assessed the BRT system's current performance. - Conducted a What-If analysis by analyzing four different scenarios, modifying inputs to observe their impact on bus utilization and waiting time at each station. - Proposed solutions to optimize the system, considering factors such as headway adjustments, increasing passenger demand, waiting times, bus utilization, and operational costs. - Employed Minitab Analysis to support data-driven decision-making. Key Findings: The DES model revealed that Amman's BRT system is currently underutilized. By adjusting headways and increasing passenger demand, significant improvements in performance can be achieved. These insights provide valuable guidance for decision-makers aiming to optimize the BRT system, enhance waiting times, maximize bus utilization, and manage operational costs effectively.
