I had the honor of working with A. J. in 2017 at Naval Surface Force Atlantic, where he was my deputy director of the Commander’s Action Group. A. J. truly is a strategic thinker and was the leader who drove significant innovation at the headquarters staff as well as for the men and women on the ships in the Atlantic Fleet. One example of his impact was in leading the implementation of force-wide circadian rhythm and endurance management efforts onboard ships. Within the staff, A. J. led our weekly assistant chief of staff synchronization meetings and collaborated brilliantly to develop the Admiral’s information and decision products. He also coordinated the semiannual Commander’s Training Symposium, which included participation from the top leaders from the force. I remember vividly, within days of my arrival to the command, A. J.’s outstanding presentation to this group of 100+ leaders of lessons learned from significant events reported from ships ... impressive presence and insight.

I worked with A.J. in the Future Plans section at HQs, USEUCOM; he was always a valued member of the planning team: intelligent, responsible, dependable. Quickly grasped complex concepts, developed planning requirements and milestones, and met the organizations goals. Highly recommend!
