I can happily say that Tom has changed my life! I have interacted with him in two capacities, first as a potential student for Pomona, then as a student Admissions Ambassador working under him at the school. As a potential student, Tom blew both my family and I away with his thoughtfulness and the level of attention he provided. I was a Regular Decision student choosing between several schools, and my final choice was thanks in no small part to Tom’s friendly and considerate attitude towards me throughout the entire process. I even wrote an article about the experience which can be read at https://twitter.com/PomonaAdmit/status/1363910109680730117. As a boss, I gained a new appreciation for his people skills and the consistency of which he applies them. His energy and passion needs to be seen to be believed. Couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to know him!

I have been told that the number one rule in leadership is: names are important. The thing about Tom is that he does not just learn the name. He learns the person behind it. When I was applying to Pomona, I never felt like Tom was looking at me as a statistic. It was more like he wanted to use the application process as an entry point to get to know me before I was on campus. Two years later, he is my supervisor teaching me about admissions and content creation. He is knowledgeable about both things, but I never feel like I am stumbling to keep up or get to his level. When a new project begins, he encourages me to be flexible and think outside of my comfort zone. Every task feels like an opportunity to grow and understand the things he has mastered, and he remains patient throughout the process. I like to say that I am working with rather than for Tom because he knows how to foster a healthy workplace environment full of community, creativity, and collaboration.
