Set up, analyzed and purified experiments during the synthesis of custom organic compounds and materials. Worked on multistep projects of varying complexity, timelines, and scales (mg to Kg). Gained proficiency in working with large scale equipment during the completion of several Kg scale projects. Gained experience with NMR, LC/MS, GC/MS, GC, analytical and preparatory HPLC, UV/VIS, FT-IR, and Biotage and Combiflash chromatography units. Managed my time to accommodate multiple projects and deadlines. Participated in conference calls with clients, prepared progress and final reports, proposed alternative synthetic pathways and prepared preliminary quotations. Recorded data in a lab-book as well as electronically and followed ISO 9001:2008 protocols. Show less

Dissertation title: “Robust protocols and challenges in the synthesis of sterically hindered N-Heterocyclic Carbene ligands”. My thesis was centered on the synthesis of N-Heterocyclic Carbene (NHC) ligands of unprecedented steric bulk. My research showed that existing protocols for the formation of NHCs are ineffective for substrates of a certain size. Consequently, I developed new methodology that supplemented the available procedures by efficiently forming hindered NHCs. I then complexed the NHCs to palladium and investigated the activity of the complexes in cross-coupling reactions. Show less
