Personal Adviser
-
Aug 2005 - Sep 2012
Working predominantly in schools to support students from years 9 to 13 in making education and career choices through one to one interventions, group work and assemblies. This included supporting students in making higher education choices and UCAS applications, and working with students with special educational needs. I also worked with a caseload of young people not in education, employment or training to progress them into positive destinations. I represented my area team on a number of 'champion' groups to support my colleagues and also sat on two steering groups to support business development.

Senior Personal Adviser
-
Feb 2008 - Jun 2010
I was promoted to the Connexions management team to cover for a colleague who was seconded to another organisation and was responsible for the line management of up to 8 advisers. I gained experience in performance management, staff supervision, allocation of staff to schools, allocation of clients to advisers, negotiating partnership agreements and resolving staffing issues with school senior managers. On two occasions I stood in for area managers for periods of around 6 weeks to cover sick leave. This involved planning and conducting team meetings, quality checking the work of advisers and compiling monthly performance reports for the senior management team. This level of management was removed during a company restructure so a continuation of the role was not possible.
