Geology Faculty
-
Aug 2012 - Aug 2015
I served as a visiting faculty in the geology department where I taught a general class on natural disasters. I also taught an upper-level environmental and engineering geology class to geology majors. During my time here I worked in teams to improve student learning and improve the overall experience of the students. I also worked on a team of faculty members from numerous departments to improve a general science class to demonstrate the scientific process in cosmology, chemistry, geology, biology, and evolution; the course was mainly designed for incoming freshmen. As a faculty member I consistently earned the highest ratings based on student evaluations and the end of each semester. I also attended a special symposium on landslides in February of 2015 in Seattle, WA. The focus was the Oso landslide that occurred in 2014 and how to prevent similar tragedies moving forward. Numerous experts presented on slope stability issues and the symposium included a field trip to the Oso landslide location. Upon returning from the symposium, I presented a forum on the Oso slide to the geology faculty and students. The presentation is below.

Hydrologic Technician
-
Apr 2007 - Jul 2008
I worked with a professional geologist to monitor water usage from the Snake River aquifer in southern Idaho. As a hydrologic technician I monitored pumping rates and volumes used by farmers to make sure they were within their water rights. A sonic flow meter was used to compute the pumping rate at each pump. I also assisted in monitoring ground water levels to keep track of drawdown during peak pumping times.
