It has been a pleasure working with Candice in the Office of Student Life and Engagement. Candice is a Director who goes "above and beyond on a daily basis with her administrative support to students and colleagues alike. Candice is definitely a person who has a wealth of knowledge in the education field, she does not mind taking the time to assist her colleagues in any situation to ensure they are well informed and capable of performing their duties at all times. Ms. Jones is a dedicated person who remains steadfast and positive in any task that she is given. The Office of Student Life and Engagement receives many compliments from students and faculty and staff members which is in part due to the leadership of Ms. Candice Jones. Management and personnel in Alumnae Affairs, Institutional Advancement, and other departments praise her work as well. It is with the utmost respect that I recommend Ms. Candice Jones in her position as Director of Student Life and Engagement.

I have been with Spelman College since August 2007. I began my journey as the Program Coordinator in the Office of Student Life (formerly Student Activities), and now serve students in a very rewarding position as the Director of Student Life and Engagement. Responsibilities of the Director include providing leadership for the department; reviewing and implementing policies and procedures; administering the budget and supervising the Program Coordinator and Senior Administrative Assistant. The Director is responsible for developing programs that complement the academic curriculum, respond to the needs of students and are consistent with the mission of the College.  Reviews best practices regarding campus activities, college unions, multicultural programs, Greek life and student leadership programs. Makes recommendations to the Dean of Students and Vice President concerning the scope of programs and activities sponsored by the Office of Student Activities.  Develops, coordinates and actively implements student life programs, ensuring that they promote the educational mission of the College and reflect institutional goals and priorities.  Maximizes the impact of the student life program by addressing community, national and global needs.  Initiates conversations with faculty members to assess opportunities for curricular and co-curricular collaboration.  Serves as advisor to the Spelman Student Government Association and student programming board, ensuring that student initiatives incorporate educational programming and diversity, equity and social justice approaches.  Implements leadership development program for student leaders and organizations. Assists students in gaining varied leadership experience by emphasizing and supporting a broad range of leadership styles (e.g., governance, activism, service, organizational), techniques and models.  Recruits, trains and supports all advisors to student organizations.
