Bio
Suzanne Monir
Michelle seeks to challenge herself in science, in writing, in fencing, math and basically anything she decides to focus on. Her outstanding achievements almost speak for themselves. She is clearly well rounded, with extreme success in an array of subjects. Her marks are undoubtedly outstanding, where she obtained a 100% grade in my course. She competed for the chemistry Olympiad (IChO - http://www.cco-occ.ca/), with a decision to do so later in the year. She made a relatively late decision to participate; She wrote the test and managed to rank in the top 20 of the province, where she was invited to a provincial camp where they performed labs and wrote exams at the university level. She ranked in the top 5% of a national competition for over 2000 highly driven students in chemistry, called Chem 13 News (https://uwaterloo.ca/chem13news/). What is most impressive about her numerous achievements is her time management and attention to detail in everything she pursues. While participating in the chemistry contests I mention above, she competed in the Canada Wide Science Fair (http://cwsf.youthscience.ca/ ) where she was the first place winner provincially for her project on adipocyte growth, and then moved on to compete nationally where she won an extremely prestigious silver medal. There are a few important things that I would like to highlight about her participation in the science fair. First, here home school did not officially register for the competition last year, so her preparation and participation were completely self driven. Second, while she was competing for this in the province of New Brunswick, in typical Michelle style, she made sure she was caught up with all of her other responsibilities and had me arrange that she wrote the Chem 13 News out of province. In dealing with Michelle I feel I have become familiar with her personality very well and she is one of the most determined and focused individuals I have met.
