Dieter was a big part of our growth journey as SunFunder transitioned from start-up to scale up phase. From a systems perspective there were many twists and turns as we figured out the best way to implement the most suitable portfolio management system from scratch- no easy task! Dieter's patience and determination to do what was best for the company always came through. What I appreciated the most about Dieter was his passion and loyalty to the team, as well as his ability to communicate "tech speak" to everyone across the team (from management to our Tanzanian junior analysts). Thank you for making us a stronger and more secure company!

Dieter started working for us earlier this year and we continued the relationship until the end of this year. It's great to hear Dieter will now be working on his own startup, but it's also sad because we're losing a great engineer. A strong software development team needs multiple qualities, and Dieter fits in great in ours. You could really notice how much he personally cared about building a great product, how much he owned the code. He had the creative license to approach problems in his own way, and he was always cautious which kept the team down to earth. They say strong teams do not need to be micromanaged and I feel that our development team is a great example of such a strong team. We'll be losing a great asset, and only hope Dieter will take his experience and build another great team of his own. Great job. Davy

I write a weekly digest of last week's security news. It's a great way to learn, write and help people keep up with the firehose that is infosec. I paused it twice when life got too busy, but keep on going back for more :-) Currently at about 6000 subscribers. I write a weekly digest of last week's security news. They have over 125 million users, spread over 118.000 organizations, including all of the Fortune 100.Our team was tasked with keeping the data of our customers secure. We operated fully remote in an AWS and Kubernetes based environment. My main contributions have been:- Designing and running our vulnerability management processes.- Choosing, implementing and maintaining our intrusion detection system, focusing on full coverage, visibility and continuous improvement. - Developing our incident response processes, in cooperation with a highly respected external DFIR partner.- Participate in our 24/7 on-call.- Assist in any other technical implementation required for SOC2, ISO27001 and FedRAMP.- Help in training our colleagues in secure engineering and security awareness.- Work with my colleagues on any other tasks required to continuously improve our security posture. The madewithlove team is a fantastic group of people that I'm proud to have been a part of. My responsibilities were best, yet vaguely, described as 'devops'. It was making sure our team had as little friction as possible when developing, deploying and testing. This involves: - continuous integration and deployment - migrating existing applications to AWS or other providers - managing development environments with vagrant and configuration management tools - setting up the infrastructure for new projects and upgrading legacy ones - jumping in to the code once and a while to help out or automate something - ensuring the presence of adequate documentation and tests for stability and getting new people more easily integrated on the team Show less

At Digipolis I helped out on the back-end side of a new platform for the inhabitants of Antwerpen. The functionality of this platform ranges between everything from being able to request a birth certificate online, to looking for events you want to go to. Everything is mobile first, with a complete focus on the user. Most of of my work was focused on development in Node.js, and also touching on some PHP and infrastructure work. My main responsibilities at Darwin were to continue feature development on the existing platform, and start designing and building the architecture for the next, more scalable phase. In more (technical) detail, my work consisted of: - Continuing development of the analytics application, built with Symfony2, MySQL and MongoDB - Transfer knowledge to new internal employees - Helping the Darwin architecture move forward with scaling and development efforts - Moving to an API-centric infrastructure, and writing that RESTful API in Laravel 4 - Automating deployments and local development environments with Vagrant, Puppet, Capistrano and Rocketeer - Scaling the harvesting of third-party API data with Iron.io workers and queues - Helping out in the frontend with Twig, jQuery and d3.js Show less

At Twitspark (now: Sparkcentral) I helped to build the new version of the platform from scratch. Highlights: - Kicking off the Backbone.js frontend and Node.js part of the backend - Helping with the API, implemented in Symfony2 - Equipping the team with a 'Twitspark-in-a-box' local development environment, where the entire Twitspark chain is built on a local VM using Vagrant and Puppet - Building a staging environment on Amazon Web Services - Providing aggregated logging and business/technical metrics for the Twitspark infrastructure Show less
