Feb 2023 - Present
I am conducting applied research on the relationship between producer decision making, wellbeing, and social-ecological resilience at the farm scale. The aim is to understand the impact of grazing management on soil health, ecological functioning, and socioeconomic wellbeing. This research is being undertaken alongside a multi-institutional team including Oregon State University, Michigan State University, Colorado State University, University of Wyoming, The Nature Conservancy, and others. The team includes social scientists, economists, soil scientists, and range scientists. Show less

Agriculture occupies 38% of the planet’s terrestrial surface, using 70% of freshwater resources. Its modern practice is dominated by an industrial-productivist discourse, which has contributed to the simplification and degradation of human and ecological systems. As such, agricultural transformation is essential for creating more sustainable food systems. A prominent discursive alternative to industrial-productivist agriculture is regenerative agriculture. Regenerative discourses are emergent, radically evolving and diverse. Through critical discourse analysis, this research explores the nature and characteristics of these discourses. It is unclear whether they have the potential to generate the changes required to shift industrial-productivist agriculture. Using action research for transformations, the research aims to understand how transformative change can be facilitated in agriculture. Show less

The Bachelor of Science (Regenerative Agriculture) at Southern Cross University has had the highest number of enrolments for an agricultural degree in Australia's history. I have tutored into 'Ecological Perspectives: Human Ecology' at the undergraduate level and 'Ecological Perspectives for Transformative Change' at the post-graduate level. These subjects explore holism, ecological literacy and systems thinking. I designed and delivered workshops for these subjects on agricultural transformation. These explored different change models, in particular, resilience principles and leverage points. Show less

Moffat Falls is a regenerative pastoral property and steer trade operation. We also run eco-tourism through the Yaraandoo Eco-Lodge and Function Centre, which has won awards for its environmental design. This includes self-contained cabins, fly-fishing tours, respite retreats, corporate events, weddings and workshops. In the early years, the property pioneered the largest private hydro-electricity scheme in Australia. We have engaged in wildlife conservation, including breeding Masked Owls and revitalising endangered Rufous Bettong populations. Show less

Tutor and Facilitator, Faculty of Transdisciplinary Innovation (FTDi)

FDTi at University of Technology Sydney draws on multiple disciplines to provide the knowledge base to address complex problems in society. With the faculty I have tutored in 'Complexity and Sustainability,' 'Past, Present and Future of Innovation,' 'Creative Practice and Methods,' 'Problems to Possibilities' and 'Impossibilities to Possibilities.' I have designed and delivered two workshops. The first on transdisciplinary creative methods that help students think across, between and beyond the disciplines when tackling problems. This was developed from original research. The second was on regenerative practice, helping students identify energy flows in socio-ecological systems, view them holistically, and work with potential rather than problems. Show less

SSE is an unprecedented collaboration between 11 NSW universities and TAFE NSW to drive next generation Australian entrepreneurship. I crafted and coordinated SSE messaging via social media, blogs, website, fact sheets, speeches and presentations and conducted research to inform strategic thinking and implement new initiatives. I helped coordinate the award submission for ‘Outstanding Emerging Entrepreneurship Centre’ to the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centres. We were successful in this application. Show less

The National Party is a political organisation that supports people in rural and regional areas of Australia. Previously known as the Country Party. I worked on the 2015 NSW State Election, 2016 Federal Election, Orange, New England, Cootamundra and Murray by-elections. We opened the preselection process up to the entire community (instead of just local party members), in the Lismore Community Preselection. Our videography team, with UFO Films, was the recipient of the Reed Award in Los Angeles for ‘Best International Political TV Commercial 2016.’ Within a month we planned, coordinated, filmed, edited and released to air forty-four TV commercials interviewing regional people and federal members of parliament. I spent many hours traveling across NSW, visiting out-of-the-way rural communities. My time with The Nationals began as an Intern (2014), followed by Communications and Research Assistant (2015).
