As a Freelance Web Developer, I have done multiple Web projects for clients such as The Medical Research Institute of New Zealand, Creative HQ, Little Yellow Bird, Wellington Boy’s and Girl’s Institute, Breadcrumbs, and the Wellington Health Tech Network. These projects have helped me develop skills in numerous aspects of website development - from client interactions and working with their vision, through to working with a static website, various CMS or even creating their own CMS, and being able to identify and resolve issues that arise throughout the development process.

Web & UX Tutor
-
Jul 2016 - Apr 2020
My role at Yoobee Colleges involved teaching a class of up to 20 students in a 40-week extensive course in Web and User Experience Design. Each day I taught students industry skills ranging from UX Research techniques, advanced HTML & CSS, front end frameworks such as React JS, and how to develop themes for Content Management Systems like Wordpress, Drupal and recently Silverstripe. During my time at Yoobee, I mentored and supported about 70 students with about 80% of them getting full-time industry roles when completing their course.

Youth Worker

Mar 2015 - Sep 2019
In this role, I organized a weekly youth group for intermediate and college-age kids. The group consists of about 40 young people whom I help mentor and support throughout their time in the youth group. I also manage a small team of volunteers who help out each week. This involves running leadership courses to train these volunteers to get them ready to help lead the events. In this role, I organized a weekly youth group for intermediate and college-age kids. Web Development Intern
-
Mar 2016 - Jun 2016
Little Yellow Bird is a corporate uniform supplier that uses ethically sourced fabrics to make quality uniforms under fair working conditions. As an intern for Little Yellow Bird, I was tasked with recreating their entire website using a custom theme built-in Shopify. This experience taught me how to work in a fast past atmosphere like most start-up companies are. After the internship, I did multiple small updates to their website to improve their usability and user experience. Digital Futures is a three month programme facilitated and run by Creative HQ, VicLink, and Victoria University of Wellington, focused on building successful digital start-up ventures and helping solve real world business problems. Digital Futures consisted of four teams, made up of six Victoria University graduates, with an aim of developing business cases and early digital prototypes for assigned clients. These teams are guided in weekly sessions by start up experts at Creative HQ and industry leaders in relative domains. If the final concepts presented back to the clients meet their expectations then they are offered the chance to take them to market. Throughout the programme, we were taught how to: conduct effective market validation, contact key partners who may have interest in being involved, construct a financial forecast, and compose a compelling pitch. In addition to this, we also learnt how to work efficiently and practically as a group, while delegating and understanding specific responsibilities of individual members within the team. At the end of the programme, our team had successfully determined an effective solution to a problem we had identified within the market, and one which provided value to our client.
