Of the many channels a Director of Marketing is responsible for, my overarching duty is to ensure promotional avenues for marketing our products are taken care of. I work with senior and executive management on clearing promotional materials, and I also work with several teams and clients to identify our weak points and formulate a strategy to turn them into strengths. During one of my peaks, I was able to create the marketing and brand strategy for Financial Wellbeing 2.0 (proprietary software), and use that momentum to provide training for clients and administrators. Business intelligence, in-depth market research surveys, and financial reports are just the beginning of my daily concerns to ensure our products, services and organization perform well. My greatest achievement? Using organizational psychology techniques which resulted in the execution of a financial literacy program that increased human performance across 200 schools.

Leading with my greatest achievement, I was able to streamline communications and operations by converting it into a pure paperless environment. I was also given the opportunity to provide in-depth market and customer analyses, but more importantly, I worked with the President and executive management to modify the entire way information was passed between the technology department and everyone else resulting in an incredibly smooth workflow. I was given the incredible opportunity to implement a global e-procurement strategy in 23 global sites. My efforts, along with the team, saved the company $475,000+ in operational and reporting costs. The most important part of such an intense global implementation, isn’t the roll-out itself, but the support and user experience which comes after. To ensure widespread adoption, I performed focus groups and one on one qualitative assessments with employees to determine choke points. I also assessed the productivity of our staff, based on lean six sigma principles and time and motion studies, to identify repetitive tasks better suited for automation and focus on organizational efficiency.

I had two objectives at Caterpillar: 1) Develop Business Intelligence Reporting for the Latin American market, and 2) Serve as a Leadership Coach and Corporate Trainer. I was tasked by executive management to develop a business intelligence report assessing the competitive standing of Caterpillar’s Latin American heavy machinery sales against global competitors in several key areas. My fact-finding mission was used in their strategic planning and vision casting process for global movements. As a leadership coach, I worked with the senior management team of the marketing division to develop training programs in the Latin American division for B2B management, and evaluated the effectiveness of the training based on an assessment influenced by the ADDIE model. The results? 90% retention rate of all information delivered in our training.
