Within the first coronavirus lockdown in June 2020, I created my own small business, 'By Rachael UK', selling my own illustrations as prints and stickers. The success of my business has landed me a feature on the Glamour UK website and a page in Pocozine and allowed me to take on work illustrating work for other small businesses including Bloom By Grace, Gramercyy and Storm by Sara. Social media has been the biggest part of the business, and has allowed some of my posts to go viral, with one reaching over 661 thousand people, gaining 163 thousand likes. Having my own small business has given me an insight into how businesses work due to having to learn as my business grows. I have worked on branding, social media, marketing, finance and everything else that goes into running a business. The opportunities and knowledge I have gained through having my own business will be beneficial to take into a future career.

Whilst working as a waitress at an independant restaurant, I proposed to them that I took control of their social media platforms (Instagram and Facebook), as they were lacking in regular posts and engagement. I took on the role as their social media co-ordinator and took over their accounts. This role included curating posts for their Instagram posts, stories and Facebook account, ensuring their regulars where up to date on the latest news regarding the restaurant, especially during the coronavirus pandemic. After my shifts as a waitress, I would take photographs of the restaurant and food for me to use on the media platforms. I scheduled posts and communicated with followers, ensuring any messages and comments were faced with a response. The Instagram page is now at 1,300 followers, which is 900 more than when I first started managing their social media. This later went on to creating them a completely new website via WIX.com, as their previous website was outdated and didn't function well for customers trying to view opening times or menus. This website was the first time I had created one for a company, and resulted in an increase of bookings and enquires. The website is still used today despite me moving on in my career.
