DUKE ENERGY – MAYO PLANT, DRY BOTTOM ASH CONVERSION PROJECTMechanical lead designer for duration of the project. Project design objective included converting the existing wet bottom ash sluicing system to a dry pneumatic bottom ash system. Piping system design responsibilities included service water, seal water, instrument air, service air, tempering air, sanitary drain, potable water, wastewater, fire protection, and truck wash spray header design. Performed field walkdowns to verify existing piping tie-ins and resolve potential interferences inside boiler building. Also responsible for coordinating design efforts with project partners, scheduling design efforts to support construction, interface with client and equipment vendors, manpower/manhour estimates, and overseeing coworkers. PDS Piping Designer, PDS Drawing Manager, and Microstation J software was used on this project.AMERICAN ELECTRIC POWER – ROCKPORT PLANT, UNITS 1&2 SCR & IN-DUCT DSI FGD PROJECTProject involved piping and equipment layout and design for the installation of an in-duct dry sorbent injection flue gas desulfurization (DSI FGD) system into the existing two-unit coal plant. Piping system design responsibilities included dilution air heating steam and condensate, potable water, wastewater, service water, and equipment drains. Used QuantaCAD laser scans to route piping inside the existing Unit 1 boiler building. Also responsible for creating underground piping composites, demolition drawings, and updating existing plant drawings. PDS Piping Designer, PDS Drawing Manager, and Microstation V8 software was used on this project.

    • CAD Technician
      • Apr 2007 - Apr 2010

Worked on projects as an entry level drafter in the electrical and mechanical disciplines. Learned Microstation J, PDS Piping Designer, PDS Drawing Manager, SmartPlant Review, LaserGEN, and AutoCAD Raster Design while working on various projects. Two major projects during this timeframe are listed below.SOUTHERN COMPANY – PLANT SCHERER, AIR QUALITY CONTROL UPGRADEProject involved piping and equipment layout and design for the installation of flue gas desulfurization (FGD) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems into the existing four-unit coal plant. Piping system design responsibilities included ammonia injection grid, anhydrous ammonia, ash water sluicing, auxiliary steam, emergency quench water, equipment drains, filtered water, fire protection, gypsum slurry, instrument air, lighter oil, limestone slurry, nitrogen purge, potable water, sanitary sewer, seal air, service air, service water, wastewater, water cannon, and vacuum cleaning. Many tasks involved visiting the site to relocate various aboveground piping systems. Used LaserGEN 2007 and field sketches to route new aboveground piping inside the existing boiler buildings. Checked various piping isometrics, piping orthographics, and equipment general arrangement drawings. Modeling was done using PDS Piping Designer. Drafting work was done using PDS Drawing Manager, AutoCAD, and Microstation J.DUKE ENERGY – MAYO PLANT, ZERO LIQUID DISCHARGE (ZLD) PROJECTProject design objective included treating Mayo FGD wastewater so that Mayo Plant could meet state mandate of ZLD. While on project, worked with mechanical and electrical engineers to create preliminary tank drawings for bidding using Microstation J. Visited the site to locate and sketch existing pipe tie-in connections for new ZLD equipment. Modeled existing piping from field sketches in PDS Piping Designer.

Company was a steel detailing and fabrication firm. Design team consisted of seven drafters and two structural engineers with adjacent steel fabrication shop made up of roughly 60 employees. Began working on 2D stair and handrail details for several small projects using AutoCAD. Learned basic steel drafting techniques and welding symbols. Later worked on column and beam connection detail drawings. POMEROY’S BUILDING RESTORATION, EASTON, PA Main project during employment. Converted the front half of the abandoned Pomeroy’s Building into 24 apartments on the upper floors and retail space on the ground floor using 2D AutoCAD software. Design included dividing the building in two for an atrium to be created halfway up Bank Street. Visited the site to verify locations of existing steel for modification and demolition.
