As part of the DCU Structured Mentorship Programme, I have the pleasure of acting as mentor to Roisin. We started working together through the programme in November 2016 and have connected a number of times by phone and by email since then. We will continue to do so for the remainder of the programme too. I find Roisin to be an intelligent, enthusiastic and extremely personable individual. From the very beginning, I could tell she had prepared thoroughly for our call with clear goals and objectives for her participation in the programme. She asked astute questions and was willing to undertake the recommendations to help her prepare for the next stage of her programme, namely her Intra placement. She is keen to learn and develop the skills necessary to thrive in a competitive work environment. Roisin is a well-rounded student who is not only successful academically but is also civically engaged through her volunteer work. I have the impression that she is very focused and keen to learn and develop the skills necessary to thrive in a business environment. I have no doubt she would be a great asset to any future employer.

While attending third level education, I worked part-time in Daybreak. This involved training new staff which requires effective communication and team work, adhering to Health and Safety regulations and also the responsibility of counting and balancing tills at start and end of shift.
