  I work with Prof. Emilianne Limbrick, and we conduct research on lanthipeptide biosynthesis. Our ultimate goal is to express a class 1 gene cluster from a novel source, Salinispora arenicola, using E. coli BL21 (DE3) cells as the host. We are interested in this gene cluster because the lanthipeptide expressed from it may possess antibacterial properties. I am currently working on cloning one of the lanthipeptide components into a DNA vector.

  I participated in the Jean Dreyfus Lectureship for Undergraduates at Mercer University under the leadership of Dr. Emilianne Limbrick. We conducted research on lanthipeptide biosynthesis. Specifically, we focused on the expression and purification of a glutathione S-transferase pre-peptide fusion and dehydratase derived from a class 1 lanthipeptide gene cluster.
