    • Group Productivity Project Leader
      • Jul 2013 - Dec 2014

I led the BHP Billiton Group Productivity Project for BHP Billiton, reporting to the Group Executive for Health, Safety, the Environment, Marketing and Technology. With a small, central team we designed and implemented the common language, metrics and framework around improved Productivity, in the areas of Equipment, People, Supply, Capital and Marketing. A critical component was the determination of the quantum of free cash flow improvement that could be gained through improved productivity. The Project had a strong change management component, and included internal (to Management and to senior employees) and external (mainly to shareholders) reporting.By December 2016 the Group had delivered ~US11bn of cost and volume productivity free cash flow improvements. • Vice President Mineral Resource Development
      • Jan 2011 - Aug 2013

As global VP Mineral Resource Development, I led some 25 senior professionals in Geoscience, Mine Engineering, Business Planning, Brownfields Exploration and Geometallurgical Engineering, providing Group leadership in these areas. We initiated and executed a number of technology projects in resource definition, in resource evaluation, in mine engineering and in geometallurgy. In this role, and in previous roles in BHP, I led some 25 comprehensive capital project reviews, across multiple commodities, geographies and investment phases.During this period we were intimately involved with the Australasian Joint Ore Reserves Committee (JORC) and with the Australian Stock Exchange, in advising them on updating the listings rules for Natural Resource companies. • Senior Manager Resource Evaluation
      • Jan 2009 - Jan 2011

I set-up and led the Brownfields Exploration function, which involved organising the Group-wide measurement and reporting (including external reporting) of exploration activities and results. We developed simple metrics to organise and manage exploration, and through the expenditure of ~$600M annually we doubled the company’s resource base in six years. The exploration management and measurement techniques were described in the following paper: Estimating and Reporting Potential Mineralisation at BHP Billiton – The Unconstrained View. Monograph 30 - Mineral Resource and Ore Reserve Estimation – The AusIMM Guide to Good Practice - Second Edition.During this period I organised the Integrated Growth Strategies for individual commodities, which looked at business growth through Greenfields Exploration, through Brownfields Exploration, and through Acquisitions. • Jan 1999 - Jan 2005

I joined then Billiton in January 1999, and was closely involved in a number of acquisitions, most notably of Rio Algom, a Canadian-listed Base Metals producer.
