Working as an invigilator ensures that I am up to date with current, ever-changing guidelines. I must stick to rules rigidly in order for good practice to be kept and to ensure that candidates are getting fair treatment in line with country-wide regulations. Working at Heron Foods allowed me to further improve upon skills developed during my time at McDonalds such as team work, time management, and flexibility, as well as providing additional skills such as stocking facing up the store, assisting colleagues during busy periods, and forming good professional relationships with regular customers. I received good feedback in reviews, with comments expressing my excellent punctuality and flexibility in the workplace, as well as having good customer service skills. Since starting my job at McDonalds, I greatly improved my communication skills and have learned to adapt them depending on the customer, colleague and the matter in hand. I have had experience of working as a team, raising issues and concerns with management, as well as being able to cope under pressure and adapt depending on any given situation. Show less

I had a week's work experience at Cynergy3 and Impress (leading manufacturers in reed switches and pressure gauge technology) where I observed their production line processes, such as assembly and quality control, and where I was able to have hands-on experience of testing reed relay switch prototypes that were in early stages of development. I also spent time observing the non-destructive testing of failed components, and gained an understanding into the crossovers involved between the different areas of a business- seeing the importance of project management for the smooth running of the business. For a week, I shadowed PhD students conducting research into polymers and ceramics, as well as having the opportunity to use specialist equipment, such as an electron microscope which was used to study ceramic platelets, in which I assisted a student with visual impairments to complete a thorough analysis into the material properties of ceramics after significant impact with regards to manufacturing techniques of body armour.
