Even though SMEs urgently need to innovate, they have lagged behind thinking, mapping, and influencing the future because of the lack of sufficient skills and resources. Supported by a scholarship from the Colombian government, I conducted an inquiry to bring the benefits of applying vision concepts, commonly known as concept cars in the automotive industry, as a design approach to supporting innovation in SMEs. Initially, I focused on automotive corporations using concept cars as a futures technique in the context of innovation. In view of the insights drawn from this study, I consolidated a design-led futures technique for SMEs. Finally, I evaluated the use of the technique with several SMEs, collecting its benefits and limitations. I also coached graduation and Joint Master Project students and taught Design-Driven Innovation, Design Roadmapping, and Design for Interaction Research Methodology to master students. Details about the project here: http://dive.pktweb.com/ and information of the lab here: http://www.studiolab.nl/
