I was recruited by the CEO to help position the bank to enter a new market---commercial lending. The goal was to diversify away from real estate lending, while at the same time building lower-cost demand deposits. I launched the Commercial Lending division from scratch. Over 12 years, I recruited and coached the entire lending team (21), opened two new branches to accommodate growth, and built a strong brand in the market place. SIGNATURE ACHIEVEMENTS: ➛Developed a unique market strategy/niche (the lower middle market) to leverage customers who were underserved by competitor banks. ➛Developed and launched new products to service commercial clients (cash management, sweep deposits, lines of credit, etc.). Commercial deposits grew to over $300 million. ➛Grew loan portfolio from zero to over $875 million in commitments and $600 million in outstanding loans. ➛Personally fostered the careers of 12+ staff, many of whom were promoted into roles with increased responsibility. ➛Established first-ever standards for credit presentations and compliance to ensure consistency across the bank. Reporting to the president of the bank, I was chartered to run the Boston Middle Market team (6 staff) and to drive growth in this relatively new commercial portfolio. As the client base grew, I hired and trained new Relationship Managers who served clients out of local offices on Boston’s South Shore and on Cape Cod. SIGNATURE ACHIEVEMENTS: ➛Following Citizen’s acquisition of smaller banks (Grove Bank, U.S. Trust, and State Street Bank’s commercial banking business), I worked closely with the acquired bank’s largest and most prestigious clients to maintain the high level of customer services they were accustomed to and to ensure a smooth transfer of their business and assets to Citizen’s bank. ➛I was selected by the bank’s leadership to perform credit due diligence on Mellon Bank’s credit dossiers prior to Citizen’s acquisition of Mellon Bank. ➛Following the acquisition of Mellon, I was promoted to EVP for Western, PA, which included 3 branch offices, a team of 60 (with 25 Relationship Managers) and $2 billion in existing loans. I helped the team to grow the business 20% the first year, and 10-12% annually thereafter. Show less
