Joan has a deep compassionate presence and ability to respond to patients in spiritual distress. As a colleague at Yuma Regional Medical Center she was committed to full participation in the Clinical Pastoral Education Program and provided useful and on point feedback. Joan DeArtemis I first met Joan at the beginning of our residency with Yuma Regional Medical Center in August of 2015 During the first unit of CPE includes at least one hundred (100) hours of structured group and individual supervision and an additional three hundred (300) hours of clinical experience. Joan’s obvious experience and expertise in computer programing became apparent when she mastered the systems demanding and complicated process with an ease soon after her arrival. Joan was well received by her Peer Group and articulates her being a part of the team with enthusiasm. Additionally, she was well received throughout the medical center. Not only is she bright and capable, but diligent. For example, she is where she says she is going to be and does what she says she is going to do. I would like to comment on three outstanding areas of Joan’s professional work. First, she has articulated well-crafted goals that are appropriate for her learning and has presented well-prepared verbatims for the clinical seminars. She welcomes feedback non-defensively, and offers timely and insightful critique to her peers. Secondly, she has done outstanding work in preparing and presenting her genogram. She is transparent in sharing multi-generational patterns and stories, and demonstrates heightened awareness of how these have impacted her own identity and functioning as a chaplain. Her PowerPoint presentation of her family genogram communicated clearly complex relational patterns and dynamics in her family. Thirdly, and very significantly, I have directly observed Joan’s well-developed pastoral skills in her interactions with patients and family members. Joan is a professional with exceptional communication skills and computer skills which would enhance any position she desires to pursue. Grace, Chaplain Hailey Okeif
