Sotravic ltée is the market leader in Sewer and Water Infrastructure, Waste and Landfill Management, Geotechnical Investigation, and Renewable Energy Solutions. The group focuses its operation on three sectors namely Environment, Energy, and Infrastructure for both public and private clients.During my first year at Sotravic, as a structural engineer, my main task was to assist the project manager in various aspects of the construction and operation works on the only landfill in Mauritius, together with the Gas to Energy plant which produces 22GWh annually of renewable electricity. With my Analytical skills, I was able to optimize site monitoring and site management by implementing a new data extraction process and new data visualization via dashboards. Those data were modeled and analyzed for operation management decisions. A specific description of some accomplishments:• Led a team of 30 people for the construction of landfill cells, and other structures, while respecting the Healt&Safety and deadline• Implementing new data capture and modeling with drone surveying of the landfill • Creating a new dashboard for data collection and data analysis for site monitoring via Power Bi• Successfully coordinating with the different company departments for the delivery of material according to the planning• Construction of leachate pond and leachate collection systems• Construction and maintenance of Gas collection system for Gas to energy facility • Infrared thermal camera report creation • Preparing monthly meetings with the client and consultant• Preparation and submission of monthly IPA to client

Being part of the response team, I was in charge of the on-shore activities: - Drone survey of the contaminated coastline and off-shore area following by mapping for the team - Organization, planning, and deployment of our resources according to the survey, such as # tankers for pumping oil which has accumulated on the shore # organization of +50 people for beach clean-up, taking into consideration the H&S with PPE and equipment # removing oil-saturated booms form the sea, and carting away of the waste to the hazardous waste facility - Reporting and keeping track of the daily targets

Hong Kong’s waste problem needs to be addressed with comprehensive solutions aimed at boosting efficiency and environmental performance. Opportunities include optimizing landfill operations and discovering ways to generate new resources from waste. Veolia operates the South East New Territories Landfill (SENT Landfill), a strategic landfill and key solid waste disposal site in Hong Kong. Veolia introduced innovative solutions to enhance efficiency at the site and established a landfill gas treatment facility onsite to generate energy from waste. To maximize efficiency and align the facility with the highest environmental standards, Veolia implemented solutions including landfill liner, leachate management, landfill gas management, surface and groundwater management, and environmental monitoring systems. Veolia also built a landfill gas facility onsite to convert landfill gas into energy, diversifying energy sources for Hong Kong. My main tasks were, but not limited to: - Construction activities supervision - Monitor the temperature inside the Landfill because Veolia suspected a deep-seated fire at SENT - Infrared Thermal Camera survey to monitor surface temperature - Visual inspection - Liquid nitrogen injection at strategic locations to reduce the site temperature - Data capture and analysis report to my supervisor weekly
