Marty hired us to be Westport's outsourced CCO/audit and compliance function. The policies, procedures, and practices at Westport exceeded the industry norm even prior to our being hired. We found Mr. Clem and Westport to be knowledgeable and well prepared in all areas that we audited and can attest to the effectiveness and adherence to their commitments and practices. We quickly realized and continued to be impressed in how well versed Marty and his team were in the areas of risk management that we reviewed. Marty is unique in his ability to communicate complex financing concepts and regulations while still being extremely personable. His ability to establish trust quickly and build and maintain relationships sets him apart in a lot of ways. What may impress me the most about Marty though is his drive to put the good of others, his clients, friends and family, and even consultants, ahead of his own and to live charitably in both his personal and professional lives.

I had the privilege and honor of working with Martin for the better part of 20 years in my operations position at U.S. Bank. As the President of Westport Companies, he and his firm were an integral part of the growth and success of our wholesale banking operation. Unlike other third party vendors, Martin was always a true partner who took the time needed to really understand our operation and its unique challenges. He would them come back to us with a custom tailored solution, work diligent through the implementation then stay on-site working side-by-side with the teams post deployment until all was working as designed. He also had the operation background to be agile and course correct as needed without forcing us to absorb the additional costs. Most importantly, Martin was always a true friend who would frequently call just to touch base and make sure we had what we needed to be successful and competitive in the ever changing mortgage banking environment. Conversely, when ever I called on Westport Companies for assistant he always made himself available to vet the problem and stay personally involved through its resolve - what more could you ask of a partner!

I joined First Community Bank to restructure the mortgage lending operation of this organization that exemplifies community banking. They are dedicated to being an active part of their community and using lending to further the growth of their customers and the community at large. We offer FHA, VA, USDA, conventional, construction, and state IDA bond program loans. We also have several bank products tailored to providing the best lending alternatives to our customers and the community. This is an organization that is committed to service, and I am proud to be a part of the team. I chose this position because I wanted the opportunity to implement the skills I have learned in my decades of mortgage lending. My job is to manage all aspects of mortgage lending and to facilitate the origination of loans for our customers. This includes origination, processing, underwriting, closing, and investor delivery. I manage all product decisions, technology improvements, and operational management of the bank’s residential loan origination and portfolio. We are committed to quickly making decisions and moving forward. Since my arrival we realigned workflows and upgraded the internal operations staff. We implemented a major new technology upgrade that included updating our current origination system to the latest version and implementing a new borrower application and communication system that I consider to be the best in industry. All these technology upgrades were based on my 30+ year involvement with mortgage banking technology. We are currently working on expanding our lending portfolio by adding loan originators in the south Texas area. If you are a professional mortgage banker who is looking for a class organization who will treat your customers with the value they deserve, recognizes the meaning of commitment, provides top tier service, and believes in making loans, not excuses than we need to talk.

Westport Companies was a consulting practice and SAS platform utilizing proprietary software. During this period we maintained high level consulting engagements with various national and regional lenders providing subject matter expertise in mortgage banking and automation. Westport created and delivered a customized software platform to a top tier bank that provided processing, closing, and tracking services to their wholesale lending division. Our platform was a stand alone product that communicated and interchanged data with other bank and industry systems utilizing a framework that took advantage of vendor supplied API’s to handle transactions seamlessly. Westport was also involved in providing numerous consulting services to various national accounting and consulting companies primarily based on mortgage company structure, operations, compliance, and risk management. We maintained approvals to be classified as a Tier 1 (Mission Critical) Vendor with one of the largest national banks. Requirements for this classification were set by the banks risk management department under direction of the OCC. This included establishing and maintaining all internal risk management policies and controls and passing annual internal bank reviews for Information Security, Compliance, Physical Security, BCDR, and Fourth Party Management. We also were responsible for reviewing necessary workflow and continually upgrading to provide workflow changes necessary to comply with increased oversight of the industry by regulators. We continually worked with business units and risk managers to improve the utility of our software platform. We focused on the areas of ease of user interface while maintaining a single point of data entry and integrity validation to insure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. We maintained multiple points of data interaction, manipulation, and seamless integration with various bank systems behind the user interface.

CFS Incorporated was a mortgage banking operations consulting company specializing in providing permanent and temporary services focused on making companies more efficient at serving their customers while complying with governmental policies and regulations. Engagements included evaluations of internal controls; design of workflow, and implementation of the processing and underwriting platforms, evaluations of closing departments for compliance and efficiency, document preparation, custom programming, secondary marketing evaluation and automation, evaluation of RESPA and Reg Z compliance, and loan audit and review services. During this time CFS also became a major provider of automation consulting and implementations services to out clients. To provide these services we worked with companies who were making their first forays into PC based mortgage automation. CFS developed a number of services designed to advise companies on software availability and implementation of their first automated systems. For many of our clients we became their outsourced IT department in this transitional time for the industry. For others we became a member of their senior management team and were actively involved in their growth to major regional lenders. We were heavily involved with numerous software systems primarily focusing on Contour (now Encompass, we worked with both platforms and were a priemer provider), Calyx, Eastern – Empower (now Black Knight Financial), and Mortgage Cadence (we were the first owner of a Mortgage Candence platform and ran it in a live enviornment for 9 years).

I was hired as the chief operating officer of a small mortgage company that was owned by one of the largest home builders in the state of Arizona. When I assumed leadership the company was in the early stages of its development. I totally redesigned all workflow and business operations and grew to become the largest privately held mortgage company in the state of Arizona.
