Research focused on understanding the mechanism by which the SARS-CoV-2 virus is able to infiltrate the epithelial cell lining of the GI tract, and how that viral route of entry may deviate within the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) population. Tasks included in-vivo surgeries, mouse colony maintenance, genotyping, immunohistochemistry, cell culture, spheroid development, cDNA conversion, qPCR, tissue sectioning, Western Blot. Conducted research in the Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Lab within the ECMO-Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (ECPR) project, aiming to further elucidate the mechanistic properties of the no-reflow phenomenon. I examined fibrin deposition in the frontal lobe of the porcine ECPR animal model to investigate the pro-thrombotic state post no-reflow. In addition to this, I developed and optimized a new immunolabeling technique to look at fibrin in multiple tissue types relative to their peripheral microvasculature.

Research project on the dynamics of disease progression in cystic fibrosis. Specifically analyzed the interaction between Pseudomonas aeruginosa and the Burkholderia cepacia within the context of the cystic fibrosis patient population. Approach was working with data retrospectively on R, and generating representative mathematical models through a series of differential and stochastic model development.
