Kristin DeGroat walks the walk. I have had numerous trainers and dance instructors over the years, because I am continually seeking to expand my vocabulary of movement and my understanding of the mind body connection. I initially turned to Kristin for NIA instruction, but her enthusiasm goes way beyond the confines of one discipline. To say that Kristin manifests a holistic approach to the body is a gross understatement. She is passionate about organic living and environmental responsibility. Not only do I turn off the air conditioner when she arrives, I have started keeping a journal handy to write down recipes, natural beauty treatments and healthy treatments for minor aches and pains. Best of all, Kristin has a zest for life that is truly contagious. She makes healthy living a lot of fun.

I first completed a Core Strength Vinyasa training in 2009 with Sadie Nardini. In 2012, I earned my 200-hour vinyasa yoga certification from Om Yoga Center (founded by Cyndi Lee) in Union Square. I teach an alignment-based asana practice that connects each posture to the breath and focuses on precision in movement. Much of my movement knowledge comes from personal experience with injuries and rehabilitation, having recovered from extensive surgery due to a traumatic accident. In 2016, I completed an Advanced Teacher Training Certification in Musculoskeletal Anatomy, Injury Awareness and Prevention, Biomechanics and Kinesiology. I’ve also studied Therapeutic Yoga under the tutelage of Iyengar-trained physician Dr. Loren Fishman. Other yoga practices I have practiced and studied in depth include Kundalini, Naam, Hatha yoga and Kirtan.

It's the only class I've experienced that is accessible to everyone and takes you on a journey to your soul.
