It has been a pleasure to work with Jamey in his many roles at Verdant Power. I was the CFO and one of the three founders at Verdant Power. Jamey was the 4th person on board, but the first hands-on guy, the first engineer, the first environmental professional, and the first regulatory report writer. From the start of the company he was a go-to man, asked to cover many roles and wear many titles. He performed each with intelligence and professionalism, producing first class products with the limited resources available. I’ll mention a few… Early on as Director of Technology he designed and coordinated the development of the entire electrical system of our first prototype turbine, the Alpha3, which was successfully tested in New York’s East River to much international fanfare. Later as our Resource Director he created and managed our turbine site search program, coordinating innovative and difficult river and ocean survey work, coordinating consultants and contractors, personally dragging expensive gizmos around in boats, and making sense of the data. His technical accomplishments were so well regarded by outside technical groups such as EPRI that they repeatedly commissioned his work. He wrote Verdant’s first environmental impact study. What have I missed… a master at technical diagrams, maps and presentations… and pretty good with a metal grinder! Team player, Leader, adaptable, fun guy! I highly recommend!

Jamey has excellent experience with all aspects of fair trade, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development, and particularly with start-up entrepreneurial hybrid, or fourth sector, businesses. His ability to pick up and develop graphics and computer programming helped grow our marketing and sales and design some award winning educational products that achieved national recognition. Jamey is a creative and excellent business partner, exhibiting honesty and integrity unmatched.

As an FEC I participated in full life cycle sales and lead generation for residential solar PV systems anywhere in the SolarCity operating area. Sales are for system purchases, leases, and PPAs. Key task components included designing custom solar system designs using CAD, and conducting analysis of customer’s current and projected electrical usage and financial ROI. Project Management is provided from Sales through Design and Power-On. Verdant Power, is one of the leading developers of ocean and river kinetic hydropower turbines, an emerging source of renewable energy. I have supported Verdant from start-up through several demonstration and pilot phases of turbine technology. My positions at various times have included VP of Technology and Environmental Compatibility, Dir of Resource Assessment and Sr. Resource Analyst. Major responsibilities have included designing turbine and generator monitoring instrumentation (SCADA), designing automated test and loading systems, coordinating national and international river surveys (ADCP, bathymetric and video), developing custom river survey equipment, developing fish monitoring systems (using DIDSON sonar), writing environmental impact analyses, performing dozens of river and ocean energy analyses, and providing technical and environmental sections for the first commercial license for Tidal Power in the U.S (Roosevelt Island Tidal Energy Project in NYC). In addition I was primary technical investigator for EPRI's annual world review of the instream hydropower industry (3 years). Show less

I worked initially as a sustainability consultant for the Conservation Fund in 5 counties of rural north-eastern NC to start a dialogue with the communities on environmentally-friendly development. I then received a 2 year fellowship with the Echoing Green foundation to help create and direct the Roanoke River Partners. RRP focused on heritage and ecotourism. I envisioned and directed the development of the 100+ mile Roanoke River Paddle Trail, a unique kayak/canoe camping trail on the lower Roanoke River. I negotiated the permitting and construction of 12 swamp camping platforms on lands managed by The Nature Conservancy, U.S. FIsh and Wildlife Service, State of North Carolina. (book your reservation at www.roanokeriverpartners.org). The trail has helped spur the growth of canoe outfitters, rentals, guiding, etc., along with a general awareness of sustainability issues. Additional work included supervising downtown revitalization efforts in 9 towns using the MainStreet principles and the writing of a Sustainable Business Ideabook. My day to day responsibilities included managing staff, leading monthly stakeholder meetings, running board meetings, fundraising, public speaking (e.g., at Rotary Clubs, hunting clubs, national trail conference), publishing newsletters, managing projects, surveying swamp sites, budgeting, designing platforms, procuring supplies, coordinating volunteers, maintaining boat and field equipment, and driving pilings. With fellow alum Marc Dreyfors, I started "Forests of the World" to foster the development of eco-friendly businesses in communities near rainforests. The businesses serve as business alternatives to slash & burn agric & other biodiversity destructive practices. We helped local entrepreneurs start many different product lines including "Grow a Rainforest" and "Jungle Biospheres" classroom science kits with rainforest seeds. Other products used leaves, gum, rubber, insects, and fibers. We helped the entrepreneurs with guidelines on sustainability & packaging and then fair-trade marketed the products at US trade-shows.
