Interior Architect, Graphic and Set Designer

I made a return to freelance work in the graphic design sector, working primarily on product animations, marketing campaigns and web design before delving into my lifelong ambition of set design. I was the lead set designer for the Granary Theatre’s production of The Third Policeman - a Flann O’ Brien masterpiece of postmodern dark comedy realized on stage for the second time ever. I was heavily involved in all aspects of the design process initial concept design all the way through to construction.

ESL Teacher

I was an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher in an international primary school in Foshan, China. I taught children ranging in ages from preschool and kindergarten to primary level using a range of materials and audiovisual aids. I put a strong emphasis on dialogue and role-play while also using more formal exercises, language games and literature. I aimed to encourage the students to communicate with each other using the structures and vocabulary I taught and to improve the four basic language skills of reading, listening, speaking and writing. My typical tasks included classroom management of 40 students, planning preparing and delivering lessons to students of varying ages, preparing and setting examinations, writing and producing new materials including audio visual resources, freelance tutoring and basic administration.

I joined Henry J Lyons Architects in 2013, working on a variety of major interior commercial fit-outs with clients including Bord Gáis, Stryker and Symantec. As interior architect on these projects I was involved in all stages of the design process, from concept design and space planning to 3D visualisation and construction. I interned in Reddy Architecture & Urbanism where I gained design experience on a variety of healthcare projects ranging from the design and planning of an Ophthalmology clinic and a Cystic Fibrosis unit to the design of patient suites in the National Maternity Hospital. I gained vast experience in the use of ADB (Activity Database) software to support such specialised space planning requirements. Through working in such a fast paced, intense environment I quickly developed the ability to work successfully and efficiently in very stressful, intense environments.
