Malnutrition Field Program Officer

Between July and December of 2013 I worked in Tete, Mozambique to implement "Enhancing Agriculture for Better Nutrition Outcomes for Children in Mozambique." This project emphasized the importance of linking nutrition and agriculture interventions to impact chronic malnutrition. In this capacity I performed the following tasks: • Provided logistical and technical support to disseminate the biofortified Orange-Fleshed Sweet Potato and mobilize 30 Community Nutrition Groups following the Decentralized Vine Multiplier and Care Group methodology. • Analyzed baseline data and reported on indicators such as child nutrition, sanitation, and health seeking behaviors that existed prior to program implementation in Chiuta, Tete. • Built monitoring and evaluation tools to (1) measure the overall impact of the project, (2) assist Lead Mothers and community health workers be effective in community counseling, and (3) monitor multiplication plots. • Participated in provincial and district level multi-sectoral meetings to advance malnutrition and biofortified crops on ministry agendas, improve and communicate program advancements, and provide technical support. • Wrote progress reports and built presentations for donors and other key stakeholders in both English and Portuguese. These included changes in disease epidemiology, health systems, environment, and governance.
