I had the privilege to work with Brad at Amgen when he was the Director of Global Marketing. Brad co-led the metabolism and oncology/hematology Global Development Team. He was responsible for leading and managing all operational activities, ensuring alignment between project and program strategies, risk management and communication plans. The team was responsible for delivering the annual global commercial plan for a product portfolio of four brands. In my observations, Brad’s team was focused and very efficiently run. For example, each meeting agenda was prioritized and action oriented (list of 3-5 decisions that would be made that day). Meetings started on time, e-mail during meetings were not acceptable (a team decision spearheaded by Brad) and it was clear to all in the room those items at the top of the page took precedence. As the Global Commercial Lead for Metabolism, Brad was charged with leading the team in the development of market potential, regulatory implications, probability of technical success, key risks, full competitive assessment and development of a recommendation for six assets in development in the metabolism portfolio. He developed close working relationships with Clinical, Medical Affairs, Sales, Regulatory, Operations and Manufacturing. He spent a great deal of time understanding their roles and their key deliverables. I wasn’t surprised to find that as he transitioned into a sales management role, he was able to quickly assess the situation, develop a plan and most importantly execute the plan. Prior to joining the team, the team had not performed well for a number of years. Under Brad’s first three years of leadership and direction the team progressively increased rankings going from19th in year one to 14th in year two and finishing 2nd in the country out of 40 in year three. Brad has a proven record of leadership that has consistently delivered excellent business results and people development results.
