  Level: PG - K2 After relief teaching for a month in this centre from May to June of 2019, I was employed by BrainyBunch Childcare Centre as a contract teacher. Since then, I have been covering teachers on annual, medical and maternity leave and have gained experience in taking care of and teaching children on all levels (PG to K2/3-years-old to 6-years-old). This ad-hoc working experience has allowed me to hone my communication abilities and develop my flexibility as I constantly change the group of children I am working with. As a long-time relief teacher in the centre, I have built a relationship with the full-time staff. I have been entrusted with some of the administration work, such as documenting children’s learning, preparing materials for centre events and communicating with parents as needed.   In my third year at SUSS, I was posted to The Little Skool-House for my 6 months internship. It was a comfortable transition for me to move from studying full-time to interning, as I have been posted to the same centre for my previous practicum stints in my first and second semester of Year 2. Being familiar with the environment, staff and children, I worked and was treated as though I was a full-time teacher for the period of time that I was there. I planned and conducted learning experience plans while aligning my interests with that of my classroom teacher (mentor) and the centre’s curriculum plan. I also took the opportunity to participate in some of the staff meetings, propose take-home activities, plan learning centre activities and assist in school events. At the end of my practicum stint, I carried out a research project where I investigated how a teacher’s oral cues would help to facilitate children’s creative thinking. This teacher inquiry helped me gain an insight into the direct effect that the level of a teacher’s facilitation has on children. During my time in the centre, I have been awarded the NTUC First Campus Early Childhood Field Practicum Prize (2021) and the NTUC First Campus Early Childhood Teaching Practice Prize (2022) for my performance.   Level: N2, K1 & K2 I decided to take on a teaching job that was more focused on the academic aspect, rather than one that included the care routine aspect (inclusion of showering, nap and mealtimes) to hone my technical skills. As an early years tutor in this centre, I took on the N2 (4-year-olds), K1 (5-year-olds) and K2 (6-year-olds) classes every Saturday. I conducted lessons according to the centre’s curriculum plans but put my personal touches on the lesson materials to adjust them to the children’s level and make learning concepts easier and more fun for them. I was also tasked to track children’s learning progress by assessing their performance informally in class and communicating this to the parents.   Student Internship Program (SIP) Level: N2, K2 I was placed in PLAY@TP for my 6-month internship at the end of my 3-year journey in Temasek Polytechnic. During this period, I worked on my teaching and classroom management skills under the guidance of my practicum supervisor and classroom teacher. I took on various opportunities to plan and execute lessons, games and learning centre activities in the K2 classroom (6-year-olds). I also had the opportunity to learn how to operate and utilise SMART Board, a technological teaching tool used in the centre. During the last two months, I switched classes with my internship team member so that I could gain a wider perspective on caring for and teaching children of another age group (N2/4-year-olds). Towards the end of the practicum stint, my internship group mates and I worked on a research project based in the centre where we investigated the effectiveness of traditional and technological teaching tools.
