I marked Sabrina's final-year project. It was a system designed to teach and test students on their understanding of data structures which used media (film, animations, interaction) in a variety of interesting ways to make serious intellectual points. The attention to detail and the sustained focus on teaching were both impressive.

Sabrina is a very dedicated and highly motivated individual, studying with her was a pleasure and an invaluable learning experience. She has proven herself time and time again to be very capable and pretentious. Perusing her LinkedIn profile is always an interesting experience as she is always doing something or another to build up her skill set and furthering her already vast bank of skills.

In 2013, I was chosen for a British Computer Society (BCS) scholarship to train to become one of the very best Computer Science trainee teachers in England. The rigorous application process involved teaching a class of unknown secondary school student’s as well as a lengthy interview with one of the industry partners, Microsoft UK. Having been successful, I chose Newman University to begin my PGCE in Computer Science and ICT, and successfully completed a 9-week placement at a secondary school in Coventry where I thoroughly enjoyed developing students as outstanding learners in computing. During the first school placement, I taught Key Stages 3 and 4 and worked with mixed ability classes, and as the school was taking a lead in introducing Computer Science into the curriculum, it was a great opportunity for me to develop my understanding of the secondary curriculum and advance my teaching practises. I took part in Grand Challenge 2012 programme run by HE STEM (http://www.hestem-mea.org.uk) which aimed to provide Masters-level students with experience of working in multidisciplinary teams to propose solutions to unknown, unfamiliar issues. The “real-world” scenario was posed by industrial partners and gave some experience of the type of work we could encounter during our careers: problems with no one right or wrong answer. The companies taking part were IBM and Atkins. The challenges were based on reducing our carbon emissions and creating a ‘smart city’. The following areas were covered; ● Communication, presentation skills and team working and team building ● Commercial awareness ● Research and information-gathering skills ● Project management, planning and reporting ● Creative thinking ● Environmental sustainability ● Corporate responsibility & professional ethics ● Intellectual property Show less

I was also the student representative for 2 years, representing and resolving issues faced by students by working closely with lecturers and senior board members of the University. I also acted as a peer mentor to help other students starting out at University during the 2009-10 academic year.
