I was intially hired in as a sales associate in ladies apperral. With in a week I was put into the fitting room. I was told by the assistant manager at the time that my job that day was to answer and transfer calls. I was not even shown the proper way to do this but taught myself how and had it down by the second call. I also had to teach myself how to page over head. About two to two and half weeks into my job another assistant manager talked me into getting numbers to run the registers up front as back up. I was told that I would start being trained on them during store down time as I only know how to run the registers from the previous store and these were “new” registers. Well the day after I got my numbers I was told that I was going to be covering jewelry since I am the only associate available with numbers to the registers. That day I sold a lot of jewelry and even taught myself how to change the battery in a watch. As of right now I can run the jewelry department. I can do everything that a jewelry associate can do with the exception of piercing ears. A few days later, mind you I had not been trained on the new registers yet, a page went over head several times for customer assistance in electronics. I went to electronics and that is where I taught myself how to use the new registers. By the end of my time at Wal-Mart I was on overnights. My job on over nights was to stock shelves in whatever area that they assigned me as well as run the infants consumables area. Meaning that I was the lead. It was my job to make sure the associates that were assigned to stock that area were getting it stocked. Show less
