As the Engineering Manager for Yellowhead County, I am responsible for overseeing the administration, performance, and supervision of the engineering functions within the county. This includes designing, tendering, and project management of infrastructure projects completed by contractors or by Yellowhead County's forces. To ensure the successful completion of projects on time and on budget, I develop and monitor department activities, and review and direct the activities of department staff. I establish expectations, and professional development plans, and provide ongoing job performance feedback, as well as mentor and coach direct reports. Additionally, I evaluate the performance of activities and recommend personnel actions to the General Manager of Infrastructure Services in accordance with policy. I liaise with the General Manager to develop project scope, budget, and delivery parameters, and prepare and monitor departmental expenditures and report any variances. I also assist the Manager of Transportation with budget information for engineering activities necessary to support transportation projects. Staying up to date with new developments in infrastructure standards and regulations is crucial to my role. I act on and recommend changes to County Standards to the General Manager of Infrastructure Services accordingly. Additionally, I respond to public inquiries and complaints related to the County Engineering function. To support the work of the department, I develop terms of reference, review proposals, and manage consultant contracts as necessary. I provide technical and engineering assistance to support contracting or in-house construction of all infrastructure-related programs or capital projects. As part of my responsibilities, I review and submit all road infrastructure grant applications for the construction of new infrastructure, and approve all terms of reference, specifications, and tender documents for all contracted infrastructure projects.
