      Currently working on the contamination resistance of the firefighters’ PPE. We are currently analysing PFAS or “Forever chemicals” at fundamental levels. The project includes understanding the chemistry of these chemicals, how daily activities of the firefighters affect these chemicals when they are available as finishes on PPE.This also involves a comparative analysis with non- fluoridated finishes.

      Currently working on a research project funded by FEMA in improving the cleaning procedures practiced in the firefighting community. I developed a standard method for qualitative and quantitative analysis of the targeted fireground contaminants as well as to evaluate various washing parameters to improve the cleaning practices. The chromatography techniques, extraction techniques, JMP software are the important parts of this standard procedure. I am excited to apply the statistics that I learned in Six-Sigma and statistic courses. In my design of experiments and analysis l use a data model to understand the impact of parameters on the overall cleaning efficiency and to test different detergent products. The special part of this project is I get to work in collaboration with the firefighters and researchers from a different domain that helps me in gaining a more comprehensive view of the problem. The standard procedure will help in establishing a uniform philosophy that is beneficial to firefighters, product(surfactant) development companies, independent service providers in this filed.
