This project has now been fully integrated into the mainstream senior phase options for Dundee and Angus College. Charity that was established to support this initiative has been wound-up. I keep a close eye on developments but no longer have a formal role. Leading the strategic operation and development of this new initiative. FSC is designed to completely close the gap between education and employment. Employers with vacancies for apprentices or trainees a year hence are recruited first. FSC then appears as a S5/6 course choice option for students across all of the schools involved. FSC opened on 5 June 2017 with 29 young people from schools in Dundee and Angus. FSC is a collaboration between D&A College, Dundee City Council, Angus Council, Skills Development Scotland, D&A Chamber of Commerce, D&A DYW, Helm Training, University of Dundee, 4J Studios and Northwood Charitable Trust. Students remain on their school rolls but come together at the Gardyne Campus of D&A College. They spend two days completing their school qualifications plus enrichment activities such as Duke of Edinburgh. Two days following specific work related college courses and one day on work placement with what will be their future employer. The plan was to scale the model from 30 students in 2017/18 to around 200 students within 5 years. Due to COVID-19 this ambition shifted to trying to keep the project going with a view to scaling-up in the longer-term. Show less
