Lydia Carlson
Longin is a seasoned and thoughtful product manager. He is well respected for his careful customer-first analysis, which leverages insights gained from VOC combined with market data. His ability to listen and reflect means that he builds a deep understanding of how customers make purchasing decisions; all of the personas involved, the problems they face as well as the key factors considered in a purchasing decision. This knowledge is coupled with a willingness to test assumptions with the market to ensure that products solve compelling problems in meaningful ways. In addition, he is collaborative and funny. It was a pleasure working with someone of this caliber and character.

When I set out to create an "innovation hub" for Scott Safety to accelerate the development of revolutionary new products for the global fire services, I knew I needed to find leaders with the courage, creativity and drive to "think different." Longin had to step away from a highly responsible marketing job to join the "Firefighter of the Future" team in a dedicated, co-located, collaboration center that was completely foreign to the way product development had been done at Scott Safety. Longin's deep industry knowledge and personal experience in firefighting technology and tactics made a tremendous contribution to this team. The results were nothing less than stellar! Scott Sight is a true market first and an innovation that will save lives of fire victims and firefighters. Longin and his teammates dedicated themselves to meeting my challenge of delivering hands-free thermal imaging technology to firefighters everywhere. They did it faster, and with more customer input, than any previous product development. Then they followed it up with the best marketing launch in company history. Longin understands what it takes to succeed in a "lean startup" and deliver innovative products in today's world.

Global Product Manager Connected Safety
-
Aug 2015 - Apr 2019
3M is a global manufacturer of safety devices and personal protective equipment for firefighters, industrial workers, police, military, security forces, and rescue teams. My primary focus is to identify growth opportunities by leveraging leading technologies into product designs that meet the evolving needs of our customer base. • I am currently assigned to the Connected Safety project at 3M with a primary focus on connected firefighting • I direct the activities of the ‘Firefighter of the Future’ project, which is modeled after the ‘skunkworks’ development method. I collaborate with engineering, design, and marketing teams to define the launch strategies for each global customer segment. • Received international praise for the global design and launch of the ‘Scott Sight’ product – a first-of-its-kind product that was awarded for its creative strategy and impacts on the safety industry. • In October 2017, Scott was sold to 3M. Scott was originally a Tyco company, who merged with Johnson Controls (JCI) in 2016. I have been a consistent and calming presence for our team during these changes, even receiving the ‘Living the Tyco Values Award’ for my commitment to teamwork and ethical leadership.

Global Product Manager - Imaging, Communications & Accountability
-
Jul 2014 - Aug 2015
I have a natural talent for building impactful relationships, and this role allowed me to use that talent to engage with customers, understand their needs, and find creative solutions for the broader market. This position required technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. During my first year with Scott: • My team delivered three new products into the marketplace, which enhanced our thermal imaging product line while adding $20M in annual revenues. • I introduced SaaS technology into our design strategy • I integrated an important business relationship with ISG Infrasys during Tyco’s merger with JCI – a partnership that advanced our product-line distribution by 43%.

Director of Marketing & General Manager of Operations

Feb 2005 - Jul 2014
Salamander Technologies is the leading supplier of accountability systems essential for safety in the workplace – especially for larger venues open to the public such as convention centers, sports arenas, etc. Salamander provides hundreds of safety products for over 3,000 customers. When I joined Salamander in February of 2005, I was only the 10th employee to join their company. I began as a Marketing Communications Specialist and continued to gain traction as I grew my business and leadership acumen in larger roles including Channel Marketing Manager (2007 to 2008), Product Manager (2008 to 2009), & Marketing Manager (2009 to 2010). In 2010, I was approached by one of the owners to take over as GM while also heading up the marketing department. At the time, we had just recently been named to the INC 500 and had grown our team to about 50 total employees. Our small size allowed me to streamline processes while gaining a deep perspective of the ‘cause-and-effect’ of implementing new marketing strategies. There was no room for organizational silos; I managed operations, logistics, team building exercises, training, vendor partnerships, customer accounts, marketing plans, and everything in between. • Slashed overhead costs by 98% • Implemented MS Dynamics CRM system • Created effective training plans for the regional training centers (RTCs) • Transitioned product development from a client-based software to SaaS • Revamped our product delivery process • Oversaw IT infrastructure • Designed marketing graphics and wrote collateral content • Wrote policies and procedures
