Introduction to Sculpture I and II: Worked with first and second semester sculpture undergraduates to develop skills in foundational sculptural media while applying these skills to contemporary discourses and practices. Students were encouraged to be forward-thinking in their conceptual approaches, inhabiting the boundaries of their definition of sculpture. Slide lectures and readings (both artist texts and art historical/critical writings) were utilized to frame each project and as a seed for class discussions. Students participated in the pedagogy of the class through presentations on artists of interest, participation in a class blog, and completing self-evaluations at the conclusion of each project. Intermediate/Advanced Sculpture: Worked with fourth-year sculpture students to develop final projects and prepare for their senior exhibitions. Students developed a detailed learning plan for the semester that included aspirational goals for their development as artists as well as a schedule of projects and deadlines. These learning plans were supplemented by class critiques, discussions, and slide lectures/film screenings. Show less
