Co-founder and Chief Digital Media Strategist

Oct 2012 - Present
GIRLWITHABOOK Movement started off as a social media campaign for girls' education. Since then, it has transformed into a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that raises awareness through multimedia about the importance of girls' education. After raising funds through a successful Kickstarter campaign, we are currently working on a documentary project focused on telling the stories of girls and the barriers they face in going to school in Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, India, and Nepal. We traveled to these countries from October 2015 through February 2016. Read more about it here: www.girlwithabookmovement.org Show less

- Oversaw and managed the main National Geographic Facebook account, the Nat Geo Magazine Facebook and Twitter accounts, Nat Geo's Reddit account, as well as the Women of Impact Facebook group (which I co-created in 2018 and grew to 70K+ members).- Conceptualized and produced promotional campaigns for feature stories, TV series, single-topic magazine issues—including coverage of the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11, Women of Impact, and Reimagining Dinosaurs—for National Geographic and Disney. This often involved coordinating with various talent on activations, and collaborating with different teams across Disney and National Geographic Society to align on marketing goals.- Supported synergy initiatives related to the Disney+ streaming service by curating editorial content and devising promotional strategies for Nat Geo content. - I was also on the board of a business employee resource group for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) since 2018. I served as the Content Co-chair where I helped to advise and plan events that would help our editorial teams of writers and editors the most when it comes to covering topics related to the AAPI community. - Created and managed National Geographic's first Facebook group called Women of Impact, which is a space to celebrate the achievements of women across all kinds of fields, from astrophysics to conservation to filmmaking.- Started off managing the main National Geographic Facebook and Twitter accounts, then switched over to managing the National Geographic Magazine accounts. I also oversaw and helped build the National Geographic Reddit account, which is considered to be one of the top brands on Reddit.- Produced social activations such as Facebook Lives, Q&As and Reddit AMAs, Twitter chats, etc. with various talent including research scientists, journalists, and National Geographic photographers. An example of an activation we did is a Twitter "live feed" of the Apollo 11 mission that we posted in July 2019 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the launch. This campaign was nominated for a Webby Award in 2020 for Education & Discovery (Series & Campaigns). Show less
