Casey is a professional organised and creative person who I have had the privilege of working with over the past year. He has brought energy to the magazines and orchestrated new film review designs as well as manage the magazine from beginning to end. I would recommend him to future employers if you want a well rounded, hard working and committed individual who has strong project management skills, an eye for detail and the ability to "just get on and do the job well."

After being Deputy Editor for six months, I have now become the Editor of PULSE Magazine. Pulse is a magazine distributed around Empire Cinemas for their employees. The publication is printed every three months covering staff news, behind the scenes features, and a reviews section. The job taught me a great deal having to constantly be in contact with members of my team as well as making contacts for features. The experience has boosted my confidence in managing a team of writers and designers in order to get a magazine finished by a deadline. As a lover of cinema, it is an enjoyable job that I was proud to be a part of.

Myself and a small group worked alongside Harper & Lewis - a vintage shop with stores across the UK - to produce a digital magazine that would enhance their brand image. As Art Editor, I was responsible for the overall design of the digital issue and carefully planned how the links direct the reader to different stories. The team and I also arranged our own photoshoot in order to display the brands clothes and captured video to enhance the digital side of the magazine. Whilst at University, myself and a small team of people produced Define magazine, a publication celebrating all forms of art. Covering photography, music, film, illustration, tattoos and everything in between, our aim was to produce material that encompasses the definition of art and to document things that make us all tick. I wrote one feature for HYPE magazine in its third issue. This required me to travel to London to interview upcoming music talent Tom Odell. I talked to him about his nomination for a Brits Critics Choice Award, his personal life and musical background. I was in regular contact with his PR before the interview, and then organised my own interview questions. Doing this so early in my degree taught me how to carry myself in interviews, and gave me the confidence to communicate with a number of contacts.

    • Entertainment Editor
      • Sep 2012 - Nov 2012

I was chosen by our course leader to be Entertainment Editor on this project. Solent Splash was a two weekly publication ran by our degree at Southampton Solent University. It covered local news story in the southampton area, along with an entertainments section covering music, film, television and video games. During my role I delegated jobs to the writers. I had to research current releases and ensure that the writers would have the material to review. During this issue I also wrote one piece. I interviewed Olly Murs about his then upcoming album. He was number one at the time so it was an exciting opportunity. I learnt how to manage a team, as well as a number of interview techniques that have helped me throughout my degree.
