Bio
Ryan White
Justin has been pivotal in the direction the Learning eXperience Design (LXD) team at Cognician has taken, helped get the function running independently, and moved on to an even more difficult task: shaping how Cognician approaches the data design BEHIND the LXD team - exploring and formalising how the org thinks about the outcomes clients need, and how that translates down through the layers, down to the type of question asked. Precisely what kind and volume of data points are useful. Gifted intellectually, Justin actively seeks out effective ways of solving the problem statement at hand. For example, moving into meta-analysis of our programmes, he decided to pick up some Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing skills. Now, Cognician posesses an entire class of analysis on user-generated data that our competitors haven't even thought of yet. And he's a nice guy - discussions are always entertaining and informative, and help nudge you in new, exciting directions!

I first met Justin when he, as a young entrepreneur, was looking for input on Bulltagger. It was clear that we had a similar fascination with the stuff of thought, and with what makes people tick. Some years later he agreed to join Cognician as a learning experience designer, and ultimately went on to lead the LXD team. Justin is a master craftsman and maker, whether he's devising new ideas for behaviour change, bending code to an alternative purpose, creating computer models that illuminate team dynamics, or making coaching guides that inspire and delight. Many people like this are happy to be left alone in a dark room with their creations, stroking this or that "precious", but Justin is just as good a people person as he is with creative craftsmanship. He cares deeply about his team, and shows tremendous patience and determination to see them improve. I look forward, as always, to seeing what creation comes next, and I'm hugely grateful to have his mind and his manners in our team at Cognician.
