My primary responsibility is to conduct extramurally funded clinical research and disseminate the results of that research to a variety of stakeholders, primarily academic audiences. My research focuses on reducing chronic illness health disparities across the lifespan. The majority of my work has been in the context of type 1 diabetes, but I have also worked in HIV, asthma, and obesity settings. My scholarly accomplishments include:* securing 7 NIH grants and 2 institutionally funded* publishing 24 papers in peer-reviewed journals (11 as first or second author)* presenting 21 projects at scientific conferences (7 podium presentations)* delivering a plenary talk at the 2022 International Conference on Motivational InterviewingEach fall, I teach Health Program Evaluation to the MPH students and mentor students throughout the year. My research lab attracts students of all levels, including undergraduate, graduate, medical, even high school students. The metric by which I evaluate my teaching is my students' accomplishments:* Deepika Baskar, Undergraduate Student, Honors Psychology, earned an abstract award at the 2021 Michigan Family Medicine Research Day for her qualitative analysis of feasibility study data.* Madelyn Slamka, MPH Student, was recognized with an Excellent Abstract Award at the 2020 Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Research Day.I have served my institution by participating on multiple committees. Namely, I served as the Chair of the MPH Program Admissions Committee for 3 years. During my tenure, I developed a rubric to guide holistic review of applicants to standardize the review process and improve committee discussion and decision-making. I also served as the Chair of our department's Research Day Planning Committee. I led the committee through the abrupt transition to an asynchronous virtual conference in 2020 and a synchronous virtual conference in 2021. Show less
