Dallas Area Interfaith is a non-partisan and non-profit alliance of congregations, schools, unions, and community groups in Dallas County representing over 50,000 adults. DAI is an affiliate of the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF), the nation’s first and largest community organizing network. At CCF our philosophy is that by working together we can change people’s lives. We can send girls to school in Nepal, build health clinics in rural areas and give people the chance to create strong, vibrant, economically viable communities. We believe everyone benefits from a world where people can meet their own needs, where girls are educated and given a voice and where we link together, around the world and show we care. The mission of the Schumacher Center for a New Economics is to "Envision a just and regenerative global economy; apply the concepts locally; then share the results for broad replication." As a Research and Writer for the Schumacher Center's Reinventing the Commons Program, I work to identify and develop educational resources on contemporary commons that can be used by activists around the country. The goal of this work is to connect diverse commoning efforts around the United States and advance their vision of building a new type of economy. Instead of privatizing gains and externalizing costs onto nature and society, commons seek to reinvent the very meaning of “the economy” by re-integrating it with living systems, local community, and social participation.

Neighborhood Engagement Program Coordinator
-
May 2019 - Oct 2020
In May of 2019, I was asked by the Mayor and City Manager of Walla Walla to create and implement a neighborhood-based program dedicated to cultivating community throughout the City. From May through August of that year, I assembled and led a committee of community leaders in the development of a proposal for such a program. I presented this to the City Council in August and was then hired as the program's main coordinator to stay on and implement it. In the course of this process I have: - Led a committee of community leaders in the development of a city-wide model for neighborhood engagement, collective action, and disaster preparedness. - Presented both an initial proposal and evaluative updates to the Walla Walla City Council and other City Leadership. - Produced multiple bilingual and city-wide media campaigns composed of Op-Eds, magazine articles, radio interviews, in person presentations, and community outreach in collaboration with the City’s Communications Director. - Partnered the Washington 2020 Census, Mercy Corps Northwest, Community Development Block Grant Program, and other local initiatives/organizations to facilitate equitable outreach, host programs, encourage community engagement, and gather feedback. - Conducted both neighborhood-based and city-wide community organizing so as to bring interested neighbors together on an equitable basis, build sustainable relationships, and provide the logistical, financial, and general support needed to help neighbors address these issues together. - Led and adapted the program in response to the 2020 COVID-19 outbreak. This included identifying COVID-19 specific neighborhood needs, coordinating and conducting virtual community outreach, and helping neighbors address these needs via virtual mental health workshops, childcare cooperatives, and neighborhood newsletters.
