Working with Elizabeth was a great experience, especially as someone early in my career. I learned a great deal about customer service, working with internal volunteers and teams, but, most importantly for my career, how to create effective and educational programs. I always appreciated her patience and enthusiasm for our work and I looked forward to coming into the office to collaborate with her. I was able to grow both personally and professionally in my time working with Elizabeth and would highly recommend her to anyone looking to work with her.

Beth was a great coworker at the Saint Louis Science Center. We worked in a sometimes hectic environment and she always handled any changes or last minute requests like a pro. She's also a kind person and a team player which surely would help any environment she is working in!

I worked in Dr. Terry Woodford-Thomas' lab, in Science Education and Outreach. We provided educational experiences in plant science to students, teachers and the general public in the greater St. Louis area. I was part of the team that developed Mutant Millets, a project that brings real science into high school classrooms. Students participating in the project grow and perform phenotypic screens of Setaria viridis to help scientists at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center learn more about this model plant to optimize growth of food and biofuel crops. I created the project website (www.mutantmillets.org), designed classroom protocols, recruited teachers and organized teacher training workshops, grew experimental plants in the greenhouse, provided support to the teachers, managed student submitted data and guest lectured in high school classrooms. I helped with other various education projects and workshops throughout the DDPSC. I also led tours of the facility for visiting scientists and guests. Show less

I taught Concepts in Biology, a non-majors introductory biology course with a laboratory and Environmental Science, an undergraduate lecture course. I created PowerPoints and planned and gave lectures and hands-on classroom activities, designed and graded assignments and led laboratory experiments. I used Blackboard for online course management to post course information, grades and to administer homework quizzes. I taught a variety of introductory biology courses, both for biology majors and non-biology majors. Through teaching evening sections as well as daytime sections, I worked with diverse students, from teenagers just finished with high school to mature adult students looking for a career change. As many other staff had left for the day, I ran lectures and labs independently. I taught a variety of introductory biology courses, both for biology majors and non-biology majors. I managed in the Life Science Lab, where visitors can perform real science activities. The hands-on lab is a university-grade research lab that brings science to the public, through exhibits, hands-on activity benches and citizen science projects, such as Backyard Biofuels. I developed and performed programming for schools and groups on a variety of life science topics. I served on exhibit development teams to provide content and exhibit text for new exhibits. I also developed programming to support temporary exhibitions and special events. I managed the staff and many volunteers in the Life Science gallery, including summer teen interns. Show less

I worked in the Life Science Lab, a newly built university-grade research lab that brings science to the public through the Activity Benches, where visitors can perform real science experiments, such as DNA extraction. I performed programming for schools on a variety of life science topics, such as forensics and genetics. I maintained a collection of many model organisms, and educated the public about current life science research through table top activities on the museum floor.

As a research intern in the behavior lab at the zoo, I collected behavioral data for two different ongoing research projects. First, we recorded video data on the social and mating behavior of channel island foxes, an endangered species the zoo is helping breed. Second, I recorded live data on the mating and aggression behaviors of both zebras and Somali wild asses in a project aimed at comparing the behaviors of these two closely related species, only one of which has been domesticated. At the nature center, I led educational programs about the local seagrass beds to increase public awareness and conservation. This included being able to identify all species caught (including fishes, plants and algae) and maintaining a database of those species caught.
